Making a difference in the lives of youth with special needs!

The Friendship Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides socially integrated programs to empower individuals with developmental disabilities to build friendship, independence, and live purposeful lives as active members of their community.

Building
Community

By providing programs
throughout Los Angeles,
we have built community
awareness and connection
for over 12 years.

Creating Inclusion
In Schools

Friendship School Clubs
meet weekly in 36 schools,
providing a place where
students in special education
can engage with their peers
and feel more socially
connected on campus.

Forming
Friendships

Volunteers are paired
with students with special
needs to engage in activities
such as camping, movie nights,
sports, and more to foster
friendships.

Changing The World One Friendship At A Time

Image

Simple activities like attending school, going out to dinner and making friends can be challenging for many children with special needs. The Friendship Foundation makes those activities easier by providing school clubs, birthday socials, and a variety of other programs throughout the year in a socially integrated environment.

Children with special needs, just like all children, thrive in safe, accepting and engaging surroundings. By pairing a student volunteer with a child with special needs to participate in fun activities together, we encourage students to socialize, build friendships and be more accepting.

Testimonials

"I adore the Friendship Foundation because of the connection my children receive from the volunteers. They feel included instead of ostracized which is important in our lives. Knowing how much they look forward to the activities that the Friendship Foundation provides keeps me uplifted in spirit!"
Cherrone Davis, Parent
"When I started volunteering four and a half years ago I was a shy, quiet and nervous kid. With the helpful tips from other volunteers combined with the participants' special spark and energy, I slowly came out of my shell. I learned to make new friends and felt so good inside when I was able to make others happy. Their smiles motivate me to keep coming back again and again. Through the friendly and positive environment, I've grown into a more mature, responsible and aware person. I love being a volunteer at the Friendship Foundation."
Erick Cerda, Volunteer
"Every day my goal is to create an environment that is fun, inclusive, and fulfilling for every child. There is nothing more powerful than working to place a smile on a child's face."
Elyse Ares, Program Director
